Desde março deste ano, eu tenho acompanhado os rumores do surgimento do The Highwomen. Um supergrupo formado formado por Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris e Natalie Hemby e que carrega em seu nome uma homenagem/brincadeira relacionada ao Highwaymen. Este, formado ali pelos anos 80 por Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson e Kris Kristofferson.

A ideia surgiu como um apoio entre as integrantes. Ao perceberem que a presença das vozes femininas estavam se apagando das rádios country nos EUA, elas se uniram formando uma espécie de escudo para abrir espaço para mais mulheres.

Pois bem, depois de matérias especulando o que viria do projeto e várias postagens nas redes sociais das artistas, falando sobre as novidades, eis que finalmente podemos ouvir o primeiro single que anuncia um álbum completo que será lançado no dia 6 de setembro, sob a produção de David Cobb.

Seu título é “Redesigning Women” e ela foi escrita por Hemby (que já é colaboradora de Miranda Lambert) e Rodney Clawson. A faixa fala sobre a maternidade, as lutas de carreira, as expectativas da sociedade e todos os vários papéis que as mulheres desempenham diariamente.

A canção já chega acompanhada de um clipe explosivo! Dirigido por Elizabeth Olmstead, o vídeo mostra as quatro integrantes, literalmente, queimando as expectativas depositadas nas mulheres. Veja logo abaixo:

Vale dizer que Sheryl Crow e a estrela em ascensão Yola também aparecerão no próximo álbum do grupo. Ah, e as Highwomen irão se apresentar na edição deste ano do Newport Folk Fest, que acontece em Rhode Island de 26 de julho a 28 de julho.
